What is the total overall score between Stockfish & Komodo? What's the deal with Komodo winning the TCEC competition over Stockfish, isn't that something like the worlds best chess programs competing to see which is really the best? Like a world championship? If Stockfish were stronger than Komodo wouldn't it be able to win matches against it? I'm not familiar with the competitions they've set up for the programs but maybe someone here can enlighten me.
According to www.chessgames.com, Stockfish and Komodo have faced each other 77 times. Both of them have won 9 games. The other 59 games have been drawn.

I've just read that the current TCEC tournament will have a 100 (!!) game match between the top 2 programs (likely Komodo & Stockfish again) with 50 different openings. They each have to play one as white & one as black with each opening. The time control for this is G/90 +30 seconds from move 1. That will be the best test. These 1st stages (12 player round robins) are played with NO OPENING BOOK. I didn't notice if stages 2 & 3 were without book.

On that site I couldn't find the round robin they had Komodo in, just the one where Stockfish was dominating it's 12 "player" round robin at 8-0. Houdini is in 2nd at 6.5 out of 8. I know they have them in 2 seperate groups right now but where's the 12 player group Komodo is in?

Stockfish will Retain it's No.1 Position and then they will Release Stockfish 7 :)
The next 2 stages will have both Stockfish & Komodo in it & we'll see what's up. They'll play twice in the next double round robin, then another 6 games in the 3rd stage. So that's 8 games before the final. I'm gonna go ahead & predict they'll both reach the finals. Anyone else think otherwise? Then they'll have another 100 games against each other. That'll be 108 total, that'll be enough to settle the issue of which is better, correct?

Just remember The Komodo/TCEC Aliance has delayed the Start of this TCEC until they thought Komodo was Stronger than Stockfish :( What they don't know is that Stockfish held back some Development Version to lure TCEC into this latest FARCE! :)
You can submit new versions for each stage. You're also allowed to do bug fix patches once per stage, but I don't remember seeing that happen recently. Maybe Fire did in stage 1a.
Teams are allowed to tinker with their programs but is it only between stages or between games?
Take the word "tinker" to Court and see how far you get with it while Komodo is Closed Source and Stockfish is Open Source :(

What does Yes. Mean ? that you have for the first time by anyone outside Komodo & TCEC have Seen the Komodo Source Code! So we all have the proof nothing has been changed ?
Update: I've read the rules & the time control gets longer each stage. Stage 1 it's G/90 + 30 seconds per move. Stage 2 it's G/120 +30 sec. p.m. Stage 3 it's G/150 +30 sec. p.m. In the final it's G/180 +30 sec. p.m. That's a lot of time to think.

Oooooooooo, it's a big conspiracy. I've never been interested in watching computer tournaments but this one seems like it has drama, intrigue, excitement. Join the continuing saga as TCEC Turns. Same bat time, same bat channel.

Very interesting that three of the top engines Gull, Stockfish and Bouquet are freeware. And that Komodo has seemingly overcome Houdini as the top paid for engine. Of course there's another stage and a final between the top two. So Houdini could make a come back. However, even if Houdini ultimately prevails Komodo has certainly closed the gap and Bouquet and Gull are close contenders, right up there with Stockfish now at the top of the free engines.
It's remarkable that three of the top six are freeware and quite close to the paid engines. I doubt you'd lose very much using Bouquet, Gull or Stockfish as your main analysis engine.
