Life scores of GM's?

Uh. I need help. I am reading this Chess Encyclopedia by Nathan Divinsky. I believe it was published around 1992 and I do not understand the scores of the GM's. For example, Mikhail Tal's life scores against Fischer says he scored +4=5-2... Wtf does that mean?
He won 4, drew 5, and lost 2.
