Linares 2008

Corus has barely finished and this month there is another "super tourney" called Linares ! There are 8 of the worlds top players playing in a DRR event and all of the participants in Linares also played in Corus except Shirov. Who is your favorite to win? Who do you want to win?  Karpov once said of Linares that he considered it the "world championship of tournaments". His victory there in 94 with 9 wins has never been equalled, even by Kasparov !

Wasn't it 94 when Kasparov himself said beforehand that the winner could indeed consider himself the world champion? or maybe he said the world's best player. Words he may well have regretted as Karpov pulled away from the field.

Anand, Ivanchuk, Topalov, Leko, Radjabov, Aronian, Shirov, Carlsen.

Carlsen was dominant at Wijk Ann Zee, coming close to beating Anand (if there were such a thing as luck in chess... his loss was definitely unlucky) and beating Kramnik with the black pieces. It will be interesting to see if he can stay in top form in Linares.

But Anand's Topalov like run at the end was impressive, he has my vote to win Linares.

I agree that Carlsen was a bit unlucky with Anand, however he was very lucky with Van Wely, these things often balance each other out.

I would like to see Topalov at his highest level here, but he usually saves himself for the Mtel Masters at Sofia

Anand and Topalov both have huge matches later this year so I wonder how much they will "save" for their matches?

Yes, the winner of Anand-Kramnik  meets the winner of Topalov-Kamsky for "all the marbles" in 2009.

Well, if I had to bet I would bet on Kramnik as I think hes the best match player but I am pulling for Anand !

Kramnik has bad nerves as we saw on Corus.Topalov pulls a new things, which has already been refutated, and he lost control of the things

I think Kramnik in form is still the best player in the world. The winner of Anand Kramnik will be my favorite against either Topa or Kamsky. Though I think Kamsky is still coming in under the radar, I think he's capable of some pretty incredible play. My guess is Kramnik beats Kamsky in '09.

I believe on Anand vs Topalov for the title.
