Liquidation

So often I build pressure against my oppenent and they rush to liquidate to alleviate the pressure. This usually works against me leaving me even or in poor position after having heavy pressure. Any feedback on how to approach this?

An example (or several) would make it easier to see. Please post them here rather than just providing links to games.

off the cuff maybe you need to re-evaluate how you build the pressure.  If you are cronically losing the position after liqidation then maybe you need to do a better job of what if calculation before you start the process.

Pressure isn't moving pieces to a forward position. In fact if you move pieces too quickly to the 4th and 5th ranks you'll end up losing time due to captures.

Pressure is bringing your pieces into contact with weak points.

I like to call moves with the intention of trading "single purpose moves." This is to say, if you avoid the trade, then your opponent's piece is misplaced... so yeah, in those situations just retreat to a decent square and they will have lost time because their piece is not on a decent square.

... but this is all somewhat nebulous without examples. Like notmtwain said examples would help.
