I only play 5 0 time control games so during the game isn't a good idea. Sometimes when I play alot of games against someone who is either strong or has an interesting style of play. But usually I just can't care less and won't look it up :P
I'll see what they play, see how many times they moves a certain piece, I'll check their Facebook account to understand them more, see what type of food they like, music they listen too. Then I'll take out all my chess books and analyse what possibities exist and how I can get that extra edge. Then I might call a friend to discuss possible moves. It's the only way I can hope to win.
If the game has enough time to permit this, do you look at your opponent's stats in his/her live chess profile? See her favored openings? Their ratings in other live games? Their win/loss ratio?
