FRIDAY morning first thing lose three games in row at 2/1 min style -- all with in last 10 sec of game due to check mate --my end game is very very bad and i seem to be out played each time by better players -- will try a couple more before giving up this morning -- will try a couple of puzzles-- but lately they seem to easy to solve and aren't helping me get better -- or at least thats what i think -- ok then back to games see if i can turns things around ----- to ken and barbie --what is delicious????????

LOSTATCHESS

time to stop --maybe with the 2/1 min games at least 8 losses in a row going to try one last game with ten min setting then thats it other things to do with time - than lose/lose /lose nobody's fault but my own -- thought i had found my game 2/1 type but was wrong so onward and still looking --- maybe one of these days i will have a great day morning to night and win a couple in a row -- instead of lose /lose /lose etc etc etc etc e

after the countless losses i started to play bots -- hummm lost every one but i did last at least to move 30 to 40 in most games something that is very high for me -- so i will keep trying the bots till something happens then go back to 5 min games to see if i improved

I'm feeling this right now. I played 6 blitz matches earlier today and all of them won it, then decided to play later. Turns out, I regretted that since I lost another 7 blitz matches because of my time and poor midgame/endgame. I need to upgrade my skills even though I just got back, jesus.

no use in complaining its i am playing better people than before and i just lose making too quick decisions in a 3 min games

Playing better people and losing tough games will teach you more in a week than you could learn in a month by beating equal-strength players.

You end up paying a few rating points per lesson... but if you learn your lessons from the games, you'll soon earn the rating points back.

LOSTATCHESS

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE --playing better players does cost you points till you have none but of course once you are 100 aka zero then the pressure is off and you can learn i guess -- its retaining what learn from this games thats really hard

Konaekkk

I advise you to try and play more rapid and then analyse your games

SOMETHING GOING VERY WRONG HERE -- i have won the last five games in a row at 3 min games-- that's has never happened before -- i couldn't have drawn that many worse players than me in a row -- please someone explain why this happened ???- are the players just bots like someone has suggested and they felt sorry for me so they let me win --- non of the five answered any inquiries i made of them -- this makes me very suspicious

Konaekkk

Nah you just flagged them

The last games have looked much better. Less blundering of pieces which has resulted in longer games that you eventually win. So you actually played better. Just remember the two rules. 1. When opponent moves, what does he attack now? 2. Before you make your move, does it place your piece under attack or not?

Keep it up.

sat morning early reached 200 first time in months -- seems like late at night players are no as aware as in early morning -- of course thats my time zone -- all over the world its different so not much stock in that theory -- the problem is i am playing the same as before -- so something else has changed- if i could figure that out i will keep going till i hit a road block and lose all my gains --- that for sure is coming

LOSTATCHESS

and it didn't take long for the slide to the bottom to begin-- now 177 -- four losses in row -- hummmmmmmmm---maybe it's just not meant to be- getting to say 326 my highest number ever i got that over two years ago for one day -- well i will keep trying its the depressing part thats hard to overcome

LOSTATCHESS

the drop continues three losses in row

You play almost exclusively Blitz, yes?

That's not a time control for improving your game. It's a time control for having fun.

You should play Rapid (30/10 for example) for improving, and then transfer those improved skills to your Blitz play.

In 30/10 above, the 30 is how many minutes you start with on your clock, and the 10 is how many extra seconds you are given for successfully making each move. So you will never run out of time unless you just stop moving and sit staring at the board until your flag drops.

insane

I would recommend learning and playing Rapid, not Blitz. Blitz is a fun time control not an improving time control.

yes as a teacher you make a sound judgement call of what a regular player should do --- but the end result is i will lose playing a 10/20/30 min game just as easy as a 2/1 or 3 min -- the time element isn't the issue -its after move ten i can not seem to keep up my defense plan with all the variants my opponents throw at me -- my battle plan never seems to work well - almost never with the time element sometimes i can trip a player in wasting time and win on time --something in a 5/10/30 min game i cannot do -- i need help with move 10 and on -- so playing shorter games makes the pain a little less---- well -- painful-- 5 min games i loss at twice the amount i do at 3 min and 10 and up i never win at all -- so till i can find a book that teaches what to do from move 10/15 on -- and i go to the library once a week to seem if any new editions of chess books come in and i look them over hoping to find that one book that will help me with not losing my queen at move 12 or making the castling work better - i just keep looking -- u tube viewing is mainly for advanced players 300 and up where they understand what the teacher is actually talking about or showing -- i seem when i view them and their instructions never see those scenarios in my games -- but then again i am a stupid old man - thats just addicted to play a game he can never move up on

thanks for the advice and time spent sending it to me

LOSTATCHESS

its sunday night and iam at 100 in every game time period 2/1/3/5/10

so with over 19 losses today and no wins that where not on time its time to stop and watch tv and let my meds kick in ---can't go on much longer like this i think -- time to reconsider whether to stay playing or move on to sometime that isn't as frustrating and depressing if my addiction to chess will let me --- i started the week on a high note ended it on low note -- sounds about right for my life --- see you tomorrow i guess

Playing 15|10 rapid (+ reviewing afterwards), doing heaps of puzzles, and watching chess youtubers has helped significantly with my progress.
Especially the slower time controls though. Sometimes you really do need a minute (or more) to have a think about what the next move is. What I'm currently struggling with is disciplining my brain to run through the list of things i need to consider whenever a move is made. I feel like if I was trying to play blitz or bullet i would be reacting purely on gut instinct and would never get to develop (much less optimise) the thought processes required to prevent me from blundering pieces.
by the way I gifted you a month of platinum membership - hope this helps you on your journey!

LOSTATCHESS

thanks for the gift but where is that to be found????? i see no gift cert in my inbox??? -- thanks anyways for the thought kind of you to help an old sick dog -- 15/10 is much to long a game mind you to lose in exactly the same spot i lose when i play 3/5/10 min games - i have never tried a 15 game but i feel it would waste the opponents time when he could win it in 10 moves ---
