Losing in bullet all the time.

No matter how hard I try, I just can’t win in bullet. I just run out of time. I’ve tried playing faster, playing just any move... but no... I’ve got slightly better but I still run out of time. Any tips?

I suppose not playing bullet isn't an option?

You supposed right. giving up is definitely not an option.

OK...then play the same opening every time with both colours, something simple so the moves are almost automatic, the resulting positions get more and more familiar so you don't have to think what to do. Try to always be making threats even if what you're doing is not 100% sound or in fact it's very far from sound - it's so much more difficult to find moves if you are on the defensive. Pre move as much as possible and if you have less than 10 seconds left just move as fast as you can without even looking at the position.

Is that what you do? Do you pre-move as much as possible and then go from there?

Thanks! I do play the Spanish opening in almost every single one, but I could study the Spanish opening in more depth and give that a go.

I'm weaker in bullet than other formats but I play much differently to try to adjust...always kings gambit vs 1.e4 e5 because its super tricky and I know it reasonably well, with black always Scandinavian vs 1.e4 so my moves d5 Qxd5 Qa5 Nf6 Nc6 Bg4 0-0-0 e6 in whatever order are coming without much thought. Always Leningrad Dutch vs 1.d4, basically playing the same moves and playing e5 when possible is the basic plan. And premoves yeah, any recapture, anything forced. Little tactics as well like if you're running out of time and winning just take everything instead of trying to checkmate so that if you flag it's a draw not a loss.

The absolute basics: Make sure you have premove on, auto-queen on, a good mouse (or be fast with your phone)...other than that, there's no magic solution, improving your chess overall will help with bullet as you develop pattern recognition and instincts etc. If you're having to consciously decision-make that will soon eat up chunks of time, so (ideally) most moves in bullet should flow quite naturally, although easier said than done of course.

Don't play bullet, play blitz. Unless you want to.

Nope, I strongly believe that I can do bullet, I just need some tips on how to improve.  Before I couldn’t play blitz or rapid, I used to panic and blunder all the time lol, but now I actually like it and I’m getting better and showing good improvement.

That’s the tick to confirm your move? If it is I took that off because it slows me down. Jip, won’t get drastically better over night lol, but I’ve been studying  which improved me a lot. 🤞🏼

Woah! That’s a lot of information. Thank you, will look into it and also find an opening that I can play really well a lot quicker. Will definitely try what you’ve been doing. Hopefully I’ll actually be able to win a game lol

Practice makes perfect.

I am currently on a tilting streak. So I would say that you should play a few games a day, and take a break after a loss.

How to improve in bullet?

The following are some of the things I experimented.

1. You should have good internet speed without lag.

2. You should use wired mouse if you are using computer. If you use phone, it may be a little difficult. (Wireless mouse will take more time to send the signal.)

3. You should make each move 1/2 seconds. If it is not possible, you must play a move per second (You can practice in this way in unrated games. So, your ratings won't be affected.

4. You should be fully concentrated in the game.

5. Practice makes you perfect.

Also, you should play as many as games you can.happy.png

capacho

maybe you have a bad ping. See if your time is decreased even with a premove

This is absolutely standard for me on how I lose bullet games, an absolutely crushing position and losing on time. Feel my pain.

LOSTATCHESS

i would assume once you get to a point where all moves are rout- then maybe you can play bullet -- i have learned my lesson and will swear off bullet games till i get to the point i recognize patterns of my opponent -- not until then -- playing move by move doesn't work in bullet -- so till better stay away from bullet that is is my advice from a lonely bottom feeder

Stop playing Bullet.

A player at your skill level should not play bullet. It will slow your development.

play slow tune controls. Study opening principles, endgame principles, and middlegame strategies.

when your OTB level reaches 1700, then you can play bullet.
