That's how it used to be. Then they got the idea in their heads that the White pieces were unlucky and let White go first to compensate for their bad luck.
I'm saddened when serious subjects appear to be trivialised. The true beauty of chess is it's equality isn't it? Anyone is happy to play against anyone and the better player usually wins.

Do you know that some centuries ago the colors were distributed randomly? So some Napoleon games or the „immortal“ one were played with Black beginning? In the database they were „normalized“ though.

Carlsen and Giri have joined forces to create a movement but in reality it's literally the quintessence of "virtue signalling." Despite their silly and corny video, they used chess as a symbol to stop racism. Breaking the tradition of White moving first brings us close to racial equality. Thank you Carlsen, now that you played the Trompowsky as black I learned that I shouldn't be racist.
