Magnus Carlsen style of play

Is it just me or does he has a really unorthodox way of playing? Almost like a beginner in the opening, except he's a grandmaster. Yeah, that sounds like an oxymoron.

He doesn't try to force an advantage right out of the opening : he tries to get into balanced but rich middlegames, and if possible into slightly better endgames, where his technique is above superGM average.

I suppose he might, but Magnus is certainly a great player in all positions. He just needs to find consistency like Anand. Hopefully time will tell.

Kasparov compared Carlsen's style with Karpov's.

Carlsen's style is a lot like Karpov's in the sense that he grinds players (even 2700+) until they break.

Only the very top manage to hold on and exploit his holes, which is why he's got the same solid Karpov-esque feel.

A lot of people compare him to Kasparov, who actually has a more raw and dangerous style of play, but I've only ever got that feeling when he plays a slightly weaker class of opposition.

Carlsen is already rather consistent, maybe he is being judged harsher than older top players. Carlsen wins several top tournaments every year, but is still being questioned quite a lot when he fails to win something. Still he has been ahead of Kramnik on every rating list for more than three years, while Anand hasn't won a classical tournament for almost four years. Carlsen is only 20 though so I guess he can improve quite a bit in the future.
