I think Anand will hold the title for the next decade or so.
Magnus Carlsen vs. Wei Yi ?

He's definitely going to be one of the big guys who play in the candidates nearly every year, but I don't think he will be as good as Carlsen.

Wei is certainly getting the exposure early on. I predict Mamedyarov will win tomorrow & be his next opponent in the 3rd round. 3 super GM's to start the world cup. There's no better test right now.

Did you see him playing the last 2 games? I didn't watch the match with Nepomniachtchi. He seemed very relaxed, cool almost. Like he's been there, done that, got the t-shirt already. No pressure.

I haven't seen the 2 games that he's played, but it is definitely an accomplishment for a #105 seed to defeat someone seeded way above him twice.

It's actually 4 games he's played so far. He's 2 wins & 2 draws. He hasn't needed a tie break yet. Each match is a 2 game mini match at normal, slow classical time control. Then, if it's tied they play 2 more at game 25 with plus 10 seconds added per move. Then if it's still tied they play 2 more at 10 minutes each plus 10 seconds added per move. Then 2 at 5 min each with 3 sec added per move. The very last one is white gets 5 minutes, black 4 with draw odds.

I agree. I'm thinking he won't beat Mamedyarov (assuming Mame wins today). I think it's just too much. But hey, the pressure isn't on Wei.

I know, Nottyboy and I are the only ones interested in these chess stories. But right now is an exciting time to be a chess spectator. Wei Yi, the 15-year-old phenom from China, crossed the 2700 threshhold in the live ratings yesterday. This makes him the youngest person in the history of chess to cross 2700, breaking World Champion Magnus Carlsen’s previous record. Chess commentators around the world are gushing over Wei Yi. If I’m remembering correctly, Grandmaster Simon Williams today called him the “strongest 15-year-old in the history of chess.

Strongest as in the Strongest of all time, okay since it is 2015 and the newer generation will generally be stronger than the previous
Fischer,Kasparov, and even Carlsen we're ranked higher when they reached 15 yrs old.
I kinda take rankings more seriously than Elo reached because of elo inflation.
I still think Fischer qualifying for the candidates as a 15yr old shows more promise than Wei Yi's 2700 at 15yrs old but that doesn't mean getting 2700 at his age means nothing. :D
Let's get this thing goin'! Yeah, you knew it was gonna be posted. I couldn't resist. Who has more potential? Earlier I posted some famous players & what their playing levels were at 14 (Wei Yi is 14). Who is he? Here's the bracket http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_World_Cup_2013 He's eliminated Nepomniachtchi & Shirov so far.
Thes are ratings of other 14 year olds. These are on their birthdays. Just to compare.
Wei: 2530. Karjakin: 2566. Why's he on this list? He's the the youngest GM so far. Carlsen: 2581. Polgar: 2540. Anand: couldn't find. Kramnik: couldn't find. Kasparov: couldn't find. I'm sure I could locate them but I don't feel like spending the time right now. Fischer: there were no ratings in 1957 but at this age he won the U.S. championship so it's clear he was at least 2500 strength. Just to compare where each were at the same age. Wei is in good company. If anyone knows Anand, Kramniks, & Kaspys ratings when they were 14 will you post it?
There's 1 kid to watch from Australia: Anton Smirnov. He's 2306 & not 12 yet. Is Carlsens time as champion (come on, he's gonna win. If not now sometime soon) going to be short?
