Idk. That's what I'm asking.
Magnus vs best computer engine.

Yes, it would be interesting to know what odds a computer could give Magnus. My guess: not much. Magnus would probably just exchange down into an endgame.

With queen odds, even *I* could beat a top engine most of the time. And I'm a patzer. Carlsen wouldn't break a sweat.
Actually, with queen odds, I think I'd have a much tougher time beating Carlsen -- or any 2200+ human player -- than I would against Stockfish. When, objectively speaking, you're lost, you have to play practically, looking for tricks and traps. Humans can be good at doing that. Engines can't. They're programmed to assume their opponent will play flawlessly, and therefore, in a lost position, they simply play the objectively least bad move -- i.e., the one that staves off doom the longest. Very often, that's a different move from the best practical try.

Agree. Pawn odds would probably be enough for Carlsen to hold, most of the time. Maybe even win a few.

Tlay80, exactly. I would feel much more confident with queen odds against the engine. Magnus would create complexities and eventually gain back material then the advantage then win the game. Against the engine I could probably force trades and maybe win the game as long as I don't do something completely stupid which is never a guarantee.
Maybe an old question but at what odds is Magnus on par with the strongest chess engine?
Stockfish down a queen?
With how Magnus feels about chess right now (from what I've heard) he might not even play chess for long now...
And I don't think he would do too well with how he's playing at the moment...

I think if the computer is down a Queen I would back Magnus to be able to be able to avoid blunders and trade off material until his extra Queen advantage became even more important. Obviously in a regular game I think computers are beyond even the top human players now. Mid-90's Kasparov deep blue sort of time it was in the balance, but since then the computers have improved immensely while top human players might have improved but nowhere near as much, so they've left us behind. But yea I think a top player could secure a win with an extra Queen, think it would tip the balance too far in their favour, that the computer playing near perfect moves wouldn't be able to overcome it against a human player playing very strong (if not perfect) moves.
