Magnus vs ZX spectrum/commodore 64

Would Magnus be a match for any chess game on the Spectrum or C64? In fact, any 80s electronic chess game?

I am pretty sure he would destroy any software running on a commodore 64.

Most of the power of modern chess programs is because of the hardware they are running on. Software has improved, yeah, but it’s mostly the hardware really.

Those slow, cheating, glitchy 80s chess games honed my skills and turned me into the decidedly average chess player I am today. I think Magnus may struggle tbh.

Cheating how?
Ubik42
omg cheating hope they don’t lock the thread lol

Lol, the “cheating” was due to the limitations of the systems at the time resulting in some highly questionable computer moves. I’m obviously having a bit of a joke, anyone over 40 like myself will understand the frustration of any electronic chess game from the 80s.

I had a C64, I didn’t have chess program for it but later I got an Amiga 1000 with chessmaster and I can still hear it’s “Checkmate. You lose”. taunt.

Before that I had a TRS 80 with Sargon, considerably weaker but still gave me a good game.

For The strongest C64 chess program, namely, "Colossus Chess 4", it reads: "1850 - 1950 USCF"
