Hello everyone I have the opportunity to select a list of chess books for my college to purchase for the library. I have a few books already in my list, but I do not want to leave anything good out. So if you could please just post a few books you would get. You don't need to go crazy if I can get enough people to post books they liked or know are good books I can hopefully not forget any of the really good books.

I'd want to see Zurich 1953 tournament book by Bronstein there.

Nimzowitsch's My System wouldn't be bad, although IMHO there are modern books that could fill that role.

Is it a big chess city?  College has a bunch of players over 2000 and all that?  Then you'd want more classics, reference materials (e.g. FCE, FCO, Nunn, Dvoretsky), and game collections.  If it's just a standard college IMO it would be nice to have a good selection of books to help beginners get started.  Logical Chess by Chernev, Reinfeld puzzle books, Seirawan's Winning Chess Series, stuff like that.

A few other's I'll mention.  Amateur's Mind by Silman, Chess Master vs Chess Amateur by Euwe, Modern Chess Strategy by Pachman.  Although these are more middle of the road.  Advanced beginner to club player.

Coach Heisman seems to know his stuff.  Here's his list:

Glad to help.  One entry on that list I disagree with is the inclusion of MCO or Modern Chess Openings.  Coach is a traditionalist in many ways and we all grew up on MCO.  The problem is that no explanation of the moves is given and the wide availability of databases (including free ones on the web) has made it superfluous.  The new gold standard for 1 volume opening encyclopedias is Paul van der Sterren's Fundamental Chess Openings (FCO).  The lines listed rarely go more than 8 or 10 moves deep but each move is explained.  Highly recommended (and not just by me Laughing).
