Taken from a corr. game of mine, I am Black. White has the move.

Estimate the evaluation, SF 10 gives a shocking number at depth 40...

whites bishop looks pretty useless and after black plays h5 and h4...that corner feels killing to me, I guess black is better here :) what is the answer?

Although being a pawn down considers this position something like -8. There are no immediate mates or Queen traps but Black is virtually "a Queen up".

SF10 with its high comtempt factor is sometimes too optimistic but what is "too"? Black will win likely after all.

The corr. game is over. I made a video including some analysis like the Wch game Kramnik-Leko 0-1, Brissago 2004.

Alas, in German. Hope you like it though.

I don't remember the exact values. But as mentioned before the evaluation is extremely high, like a Queen up after say a couple of minutes of computing.

On iphone I have solely SF 9 which is something like -4.

Black is winning after all, so what is the right number? wink.png

Yes, Black is obviously better in the initial position, but that much better?  Where's the big threat? One way to figure it out is try making a few "nothing" moves for White. The engine will show you pretty quickly where the threat is! In the position given, I tried  the meaningless 29.a4, and after 29...Bxg3! It became pretty obvious what the threats were!

I just looked into the cloud.

Position #1, White to move: 29.Nxe4 is given by both SF10, depth 43, with -8.09 and Houdini -6.8 at depth 37
