Mastering Chess

What steps can I take to mastering chess? ie getting a mentor, lessons, practising moves, skills etc? I've recently just picked up chess & have become obsessed with playing. I play everyday for an hour give or take. I would play more often if I had some sort of direction. In regards to playing against the programme, I'm stuck at level 5. Any advice or help would be great.
