At what standard rating does a player become a master?

I'm not sure how knowing the American standard is going to help you in the UK.

A FIDE rating of 2200 will get a Candidate Master title, or 2000 for a Women's Candidate Master title.

To become a National Master:

A player must achieve a standard play A grade (30 or more games in a season) of at least 200 (~2250 FIDE) in two successive seasons on ECF official grading lists (note – grades must be 12 months apart e.g. July 2012, July 2013).

Should there not be a global standard? What with the regional variation?
