Mate
I used the two books Chessercizes and More Chessercizes by Bruce Pandolfini. There are 2 diagrams per page ordered in increasing difficulty. I think each book starts with mate in 2 and goes up to mate in 6.
Many people have used Fred Reinfeld's 1001 ways to checkmate.
You can also find CDs to do on your computer if you prefer that to books. This will allow you to track your progress pretty well and repeat problems you have trouble with. There is one called 1000 x checkmate by Ftacnik.
Well, what I like to do is backdoor the opponents king when they perform castling. I hope this helps!
You might already know this trick but I'm just trying to help.![]()
It's basically placing your queen in front of your king and having another piece guarding the queen so that the king can't take her.

Hello everyone! I've come here looking for some advice, lately I've noticed that I'm not very good at mating. For example, I can be in a position where I'm 4 moves away from mating and miss it, and I'd really like to work on this. If anyone could suggest a method of training to fix this, like a specific book, computer software, etc., I'd gladly appreciate it. I'm looking more into building mating nets than random check, check, mate, or at least positions where there are different ways to check but only the right ones will lead to mate. Thanks!
