I've carped about the iPad app several times in forums and was really hoping for a new and improved model. The previous app was so bad that I couldn't believe that anyone associated with chess.com management used it. The new app is as bad if not worse. I'll leave aside the technical problems with it loading up (it often doesn't) and the continual need to delete and reinstall the app to get most (never all) of its features working. I want to draw attention to a couple of the app's features, principally the "online chess" screen and the difficulty to maneuver from one screen to the other.
Image 1 is the iPad app's principal online chess screen. You will notice the complete absence of any information such as my opponent's ratings, whether this game is part of a tournament and the number of moves so far.
You'll also notice that one can only go to "Tournaments" and "My Stats" directly from here - what about My Home, etc.
Image 2 is the screen that one can get to (in a several step process), which is the screen that is available on a regular computer, but one can't go from that screen to a screen where there is a usable board.
Bottom line, the app is almost unusable. The one great feature of both the old and new apps is the board which one plays on (Image 3). It's the app's only saving grace.
I'm on an iPad right now. I sympathize with ur complaints but I don't feel quite as neg about it. I wish I could just pull up live chess right away, but I don't play enough correspondence to pass too much judgement
