So they moved to a more chess friendly location, which is good. They mentioned some format changes, but didn't detail what they were.
Millionaire Chess 2!!
Someone start a MC 3 thread then; you could call it "The Last MC ever"
mdinnerspace started one.
Hopefully it doesn't become too popular without him unblocking me... I gave him advice (very similar to someone he thanked in the same topic??) but he interpreted it as an insult (I guess?) and blocked me. I wonder if he even remembers this...

Oops. Sorry. A misunderstanding on my part. Will rectify now.

Too true. With elections looming and only 2 candidates for prez, we seem doomed to failure.
"Branding and Marketing success"?
Never underestimate the general public's stupidity.

Well done.

Wonder at the choice of date. However, don't a vast number of participants choose to stay at a less expensive accommodation anyways?

I think their choices were very limited. Having signed an agreement before MC1. The "poll" was a farce as to feedback of a location. It was set in stone; Las Vegas or Atlantic City, gambling capitols. The choice of date I presume suits the Hotel which can offer a slightly lower rate of the playing halls, concessions and rooms.

Lol come on.

Bali, Indonesia was an option on the poll. Seems like a reasonable alternative. Sun, surf, hula girls, cabana boys, barbecues on the beach, few cars....

This is USA. If you better like low costs, romantics and naifs chess competitions Italy is better, the price are lower but the prizes too!!!

I agree with your statement richie. However, I am reserving final judgement until the "new format" is published. There have been a few suggestions made regarding entry fees and prizes making some sense. I also am of the opinion with a million dollars offered to hobby players is not good for chess. But I am willing to wait till Mar. 1st to pass any final judgement.

Come on what?
You're not even pretending not to troll anymore.

What if top prizes were drastically reduced, 50% of players guaranteed to win their entry fee, with a few 1000 players? Wild idea, never happen, but MC3 reports a new format is in the works. Most likely just a variation of the same ole, same ole as the same thing was said before MC2.

False dichotomy.
Nice try anyway.
Sorry for you but it's true. In Italy (and Spain, Greece, ecc..) a big Competition can be with gran total prizes 10000 euros (3000 first price), but in meantime the entry fee is 70 euros... and with Hotel with full board low cost.
In Usa I've seen a lot of tournament with entry fee 300 Dollars and 10000 dollars first price for each cathegory. MC is not so far from this philosophy.
I can't say which one is better, both have a reason to exist.
