I will not be surprised when he shows up somewhere running for political office. At the very least, he will end up on a Home Owners Association board one day.  Mark it.

The VictorEric Logo is now found at the bottom of all MC newsletters as "working with". It us a luxery home builder out of Vancouver BC. Amys home town. Eric Lee started the business. They co-promote each others endeavers. Seems more than likely Ashley one day will be on the board.

Give me this tournament I could make it profitable if not a million or more for the organizers without even an entry fee to the participants.  Not possible?

Watch...

Let me guess, you'll make Mexico pay for it...

Coach-Bill

Here is my input

1) Since MC 3 isn't offering 1 million in prizes, it isn't really MC 3, it is just another tournament offered by MC company. Seems the event was planned to reduce the bloodbath of losses and fulfill the contract. What will the press say when they publicize it? "Gee, they used to give away a million, now they are not? What is wrong?"

2) By my estimate, about 500 players flew in for MC 2, the rest drove. These 500 may be back for MC 3, and maybe more as the entry is lower.

3) Placing it on the east coast should increase entries as the lower fee plus ability to drive easily will make it afforable to many who were out of the market in MC 1 and 2.

4) The issue of sandbagging remains unclear. There are countless players 1800-2400 strength without USCF ratings who will attempt to work the system and enter the lower class sections with unfair ratings.

5) 1000 entries seems quite possible. Difficult to forecast at this point.

6) Profit without sponsors is an impossible dream. I'll stand by my statement there will never be sponsors to fund this event. If sponsors were ever to have come to chess, they would have during the Bobby Fischer Boom of 1972-75, and they didn't.

All we can do is watch and wait....

RubiksRevenge

Maybe there are 1000 sandbaggers out there, would love to see sandbagger versus sandbagger. Just like when 2 computer cheats play 5 min chess against each other. But seriously this tournament is becoming like every other tournament, you pay an entry, you travel to get there, you pay for accomodation, you hope to play good enough to win a prize, if you don't win prize then you hope that you had fun games. The naysayers of MC probably have a problem with every tournament that has the above model as I don't think you can stick to your argument by just changing some numbers.

I'll take that action No chance for 1,000.

Not difficult to forecast at all.  I will give you the 'Over 850' for action on whatever fungible commodity with which you would care to back your claim.

oh, I was just making a guess...as I note, we have to wait and see.

>for reasons not exactly ideal, I'll leave it at that.<

Sorry, but if you're going to piss on a grave, you better list your reasons...or else you just look like an ass.

I Googled Sevan Muradian and could only find words of praise. As it should be after his passing . Seems a few here had a few differences of opinion but respect letting a man die in peace. You are the one who looks like the fool bishop. List reasons and rehash old wounds? Not hardly.

Well, MC is addressing the sandbagger issue, and one of the sharks was yapping it up in the MC 2 thread and how he will be back for MC 3. I don't think so:

Stricter anti-sandbagging measures

Although Millionaire Chess prides itself on having the most stringent anti-sandbagging rules of any tournament in the world, last year’s event was marred by possible rating irregularities that may have affected the final standings in one or two sections. Though impossible to prove, on-the-face evidence seems to suggests that a few players may have manipulated their ratings in such a way as to circumvent the intent to prevent underrated players from participating in sections below their strength. The suspected players have been placed on notice, and MC has doubled down in our efforts to ensure that the event is held in the absolutely fairest manner possible. Here are a few additional steps we have taken:

1. Hired a firm to automate the entire registration process using specially designed search metrics

2. Set the registration deadline to 24 hours before the first round to completely avoid last minute entrants.

3. Authorized the Chief TD to assign ratings if there is any suspicion of players who are trying to game the system.

4. Denied entry to players we suspect engaged in foul play from previous events.

Even with all these methods, we cannot guarantee that there will not be a single mishap. However, it is our full intention to continue to improve our system in order to be the most airtight chess tournament of its kind in the world.

All may be moot if a TD can not be found. A new countdown clock has begun.... 31 days. Countdown clock? The suspense is mordifying. News of new format and payouts? Not forth coming.

Now add the fact that the world championship will be in New York a month later?

Im going to watch the world championship.  How many people that would play in MC3 will now rethink that?

Does someone know if the MC events are omologated as Fide Tournament

So far, it is only claiming to adress the sandbagger issue; we will only know if that worked out or not after the event. I wouldn't hold my breath, personally.

"Hey look, we know we had two tournements in the past already and it went wrong, but now it's gonna work out cause we're so smart. Just give us your money a third time and all will be well."

can my chess.com rating be used to enter the millionare chess 3?

themaskedbishop

I'm wondering about "millionaire" chess when the prize fund is now guaranteed at $306,000.

I suppose you can call yourselves whatever you want...and for those who would like to become a millionaire by playing at millionaire chess, you need to win the tournament twenty times.

Or maybe it means that millionaires are PLAYING there. I'm sure we won't see Nakamura again, since he already came, saw, and drew...and I don't know if he's a millionaire yet anyway.  Time to call Karpov.

No, but they are contrabulated. With a snire of framish.

The open section was fide sanctioned with its rules applying. All other classes were governed by USCF rules.

60 sanctioned OTB games.

Entries close 24 hours before start.

mdinnerspace

$1200 in prizes for best dressed.

$100 x 4 days for men, woman and children.

Attempts to bribe Maurice will be dealt with in a severe fashion. Maurice and Amy look-a-likes will not be permitted. All masks, wigs , capes or other disguises must be removed before your game starts. Clown costumes are highly discouraged. The event is not a joke.

$500 to youngest entrant. Get your toddler signed up! Beware of the 2 year old ringers. Judit Pulgar was US under 10 champion at 3!

mdinnerspace

Class prizes to 40th place. Basically 20-40 $500 (250+) guaranteed.

7th place win your entry fee back in each division.

5 place prizes for under 1400 and 1200.
