Mistakes in the puzzles!

I have found several puzzles with blatant mistakes.  Just now I found one where the "solution" was to check the black king, which was on 8H, with the white queen by moving the queen to 8G, which was also covered by a white knight on 3H.  Sounds great, except 8G was also covered by a black rook.  So, queen checks, rook takes queen.  How is this a good solution for white?  I have a screen shot if anyone is interested

play through the solution in analysis?

play what you think the refutation is and see what the comp moves are

or any other variation

a lot of times there is just something one is not seeing- especially a pin somewhere or whatever

the puzzles i run into that are duds are more like those where there isnt really a tactic- or a tactic that has two variations where there is minimal change in the “engine analysis”

post it up

by the description it might have been an attraction or decoy motif too

Post the screenshot or link to the puzzles...I can almost 100% guarantee you that there is no error in the puzzles and that you just don't understand the solutions.

I always kind of wished that it wasn’t just correct or incorrect. All of us I’m sure see another solution in puzzles from time to time, another winning variation with the same number of moves. I don’t care about puzzle rating much though. If I get it wrong I’ll still review it until I get the solution they’re looking for.

Screen shot pls, maybe you just didn’t see another checkmate following up the queen sacrifice

or just that the rook is pinned

I'm going to guess it was this puzzle, based on your description: https://www.chess.com/puzzles/problem/78397

If so, the whole puzzle is forced and there is nothing wrong. Nf7# smothered mate.

So there was no knight on h3

The OP just had a notation error and meant h6.

In this puzzle, the suggested moves are Rh8+ ???, Kxh8, Rh1+, Qh4???? instead of comfortably returning the king to g8 with a rook gain

Black get's mated in that line still

1. Rh8+ Kxh8 2. Rh1+ Kg8 3. Rh8+ Kxh8 4. Qh1+

Black can still give the rook and queen away but the puzzle defense isn't any worse really
