Why is this subject such a Common Thread here? There are multiple reasons why people decline rematches. Get over it.

Never! This is chess.com. Please respect our ways.

I accept rematches if there was something about the opponent that I like. Whether I won or lost doesn't affect it. I never offer them. Very often I want to analyse the game I just played, or just sit there and gloat, or make a cup of coffee.

A small percent of my rematches were accepted so I decided I will always decline rematches. What I am seeing is almost everyone else want's to rematch when they lose but run away when they win. I used to usually wait 10 seconds after winning to see if the other person was gonna rematch, not anymore though.

You don't see boxers asking for a rematch when they win either, and unless they are contractually obligated I doubt many accept them either.

I like Strangemover’s idea of having three out of five games and that you lose points if you abandon the agreement before it’s complete. Chess.com should offer that choice. That’s all I’d ever play, and I guarantee you a lot of these people who are claiming they don’t offer a rematch because they don’t care would change their tune real fast. It would completely solve the rematch issue.

There is no rematch issue .

I've no objection to chess.com giving an option to play 3 or 5-match series.  Then I'd simply never need to play people who think a rematch is their birth right.

We just wouldn't play under such an agreement. When you accept a challenge, you're doing so blind. No-one would want to be stuck in a five match contract with someone they might not like for some reason.

Batgirl and optimist, I agree, that would be great. I would never have to play people like you who think there’s no rematch issue and who don’t like to play rematches. So it would be perfect. It would certainly guarantee me continuing to subscribe to the site.

We'd both be happy.

---   It is interesting to see people get rather upset over some " Fun " games that are being played on the internet. It might help to remember that no matter how good you are at playing these games here you will not receive a title for your efforts. If you really want to take the Game of Chess seriously you must play OTB and thereby prove to the entire world what a great genius you really are  lol.

In the playground the children call one another chicken, and make clucking noises and they flap their elbows. Just like this.

I wonder what kind of bad life decisions leads to rematch obsession.
