Magnus is the Karl Heinz Stockhausen of Chess.

Thanks Batgirl, I love these because invariably, they generate such good discussion.

But would someone explain to me the theoretical line in the Rook sacrifice, I don't get it. Or maybe it's something I'll never get.

Fischer was more like Beethoven.

No way! Beethoven, despite his hearing loss, wasn't anywhere as troubled as either Fischer or Mozart. "The best of art comes from the worst of places." --- Bzzt

Interesting thread.

Fischer would be a lot like Richard Wagner, hard to get along with and very self-centered from all I've read about the great RW.

Beethoven wrote 9 Symphonies, Mozart, 41. Beethoven died aged 56, while Mozart succumbed at 35

Now this is something I can agree with! ✓

Okay I'll admit that I had to look Stockhausen up on YouTube  lol. If we are going with more modern Composers my vote would be for Carlsen being like the great John Williams !

The game continuation after the sac was pretty conclusive - one of the easiest ways to ‘get’ such things is try to consider what other things black could have tried to do and then work out why they don’t work, the play in this case was pretty forcing as White’s threats were fairly immediate.

I am the Gershwin or Copland of chess greater than all those Europe pansies even though I am welsh

And somehow this makes you lean back!  I tend to lean into the proposterous.

Pushwood: That is exactly right.  That sounds like a confession to me!!!

I went back with your suggestion, and what I see is black's minor pieces aren't attacking but defending  and the queen looks lonely over on a5 while Carlson's pieces are like armored vehicles storming around black's position knocking its defenses down with wild abandon. Once they are gone, white just finishes the attack with mate in pretty nice style.

Am I close?

Fischer is obviously the J Fred Muggs of chess. Carlsen is Steamboat Willie.

Once I watched a movie that shows a boy playing a game of chess. he suffers a penalty and is required to move his king a house further. what would be a penalty ends up favoring him in the match.

does anybody knows the name of this movie?

I'm still going with the Stockhausen guy!  And I'm glad to see that cabby has learned to look up stuff on his own.

Stockhausen is one of my favourite composers. His music sounds bizarre the first time you listen, but then after listening multiple times you realise how genius it is. This is one of my favourites - the sound of the helicopters really blends in with the string instruments:
