I think you make a good point. I'm very new here, only in one tournament, so take everything with a grain of salt. If you're a bit compulsive like me, seeing a list of 5 or worse 10 games with "my move" in red makes me very nervous. On the other hand, from what I understand, you should take all of your time, ie play slow, so that you make your most considered move. Well for me, that tends to take quite a bit of time, which I don't really have. The point I guess is there really seems to me a tipping point where playing games is good, too many is bad and I suppose this differs for every player. I'm curious what number that is for other players, ie can you play 5, 10 or more games simultaneously and still benefit?
My 100 Point Slide (so far)
It does seem to be highly idiosyncratic although I don't see how anyone can effectively juggle hundreds of games at a time which you will run into if you haven't already. Unfortunately, there is an addictive quality to playing online chess which I've discovered to my chagrin. That's all I need, another obsessive/compulsive activity.
Time to scale back on chess time: Wife and kid say, "Should we get you a permanent prostethic cooler for your laptop?" Husband says, "nah, I have gotten use to the heat on my legs..feels nice in the winter."
B
You nailed the situation at my house, B, except for the kids all being gone. (We're so proud that none of them have turned out to be chess bums, yet.)
Haha Calcot, like it!
On the subject of runs, I was 1505 yesterday and 1215 today! Lol, about 30 games out of 35 lost, and I'm only playing 80 so no excuses!
After hovering around 1400 for too long (it seemed) I finally started to increase my rating which peaked, to date, at a bit over 1500. It didn't seem like a fluke and I felt like I was finally learning something about chess. I had visions of 1550 and dreams of 1600 and more. The next thing I knew I was in 35 games because of second rounds kicking in and several tournaments starting up. A lot of people can handle 35 or apparently a couple of hundred games at a time, but I tend to start making moves precipitously when I check my games and see nothing but "my moves" staring at me. I've lost so many games of late that I'm in a much more manageable situation which I hope to use to catch my breath and start paying more attention to the board.
I write this to announce my comeback. Opponents: you won't have The Blue Bishop to kick around anymore (unless, of course, you will).
