My Game Against a GM

As i have no account in ICC, somedays ago when i went to my uncle's house,I played some game in ICC . my uncle was my 1st teacher ,he has acc in ICC, and also has a rting 1800+ in blitz. For work he generally stays out of station .

so that day i played a 10 min Blitz against a Russian GM(it was my life's 1st game against any GM)

His name was something like Petrivionaski or viocineski(can not remember ri8 now).

uncle just mailed me the pgn .

i tried hard but the master took the game with a stellar performance and stamped his authority too early.

so i am sharing this game

Not a bad game for an amateur, the timing with his middlegame was impressive.

I'm a Petroff player and I really don't like 5.Qe2, I feel like Nc3 and especially d4 give better chances and 9.Nc3 is also my choice over O-O.

I don't understand your reasoning behind 14.Bf1, I feel like 14.d4 would give you better chances since you had no control over center and passive white bishop. I think this move was a premonition of defeat. (11.Bh4 also turned out to be bad, 11.Bxf6 Bxf6 12.Nd5 Bd8 and I don't dislike white's position even with black having a pair of bishops.

Qe2 is very drawish though, maybe that was his motivation for using it against a much stronger opponent?

Move 28 Draw by repetition Nf2 Kg1 Nxd3 Kh1 Nf2 Kg1.. did you avoid that purposely?

Uddipto

@c-nack. i made 14.Bfa1 to get control  the e7 square. now i realise it was a stupid move.

@vijay sir, was it a 3 fold repetation ?as only i repeated moves but my opponent did not.

vijaykulkarni

yes indeed.. good game

Interesting game, yes d4 was necessary to take the d4 square away from his knight. Note how he first kicked the f3 knight (thanks to the tempo on the bishop) and then dominated d4, putting white's rook in a passive and bad position.

After that I think I would have played 18.Nb3. I don't think the IQP would have been weak, and that knight on d4 was not tolerable.

Hey you lasted over 30 moves. Very good. I cringed when he got the windmill on you however.

Cool game, it really shows that GMs are on another level than the "normal" guys.

GargleBlaster

Good effort, but in blitz it's probably a bad idea to swap queens (and give away White's advantage) early vs. a GM - the difference in strength between a professional and an amateur is often much more drastic in the endgame, plus he's suddenly much less likely to lose on time (your best hope, probably!).

Uddipto

yes!

Uddipto

thank you

Uddipto

But it was not well played
