My king exploded!!

I was playing some blitz on FICS today, and I saw a seek for a 2|1 min game and accepted. My opponent was white and his rating was 2038. Game started and he played 1.Nf3 , me 1. ... - Nc6. Then 2.Ng5! well, I was surprised with that move.I tried to kick the Knight out by 2. ... f6. Then he played 3.Nf7!! I was like, really!! 2038? I tried to take the knight with my king but, I couldn't! That was not legal! I was like , WHAT IS GOING ON??. Then I really noticed the screen and noticed that I don't have a rating anymore! ( I was rated 1470 in blitz just before the game). It was only then I realized that I clicked on a challenge for a chess variant game , not a standard blitz game. I had no idea what to do next. His knight is threatening to take my queen. But I don't have a way to stop it. And I don't know what the objective here really is. So I just made a pawn move and boom.. Game over! He took the queen with knight and my king exploded!!!. :D.. I later found out it was called atomic chess!! Anyone had such similar experiences? :)

No, white get to the throne and blows up the king first :) (infact, you can explode your oponents king, even if you are in check, or checkmate! )

The best first move for White is 1. Nf3!, which threatens both 2. Ng5 and 2. Nd5, which win on spot. Black is forced to play 1...f6!! in order to parry the threat. Whoever explodes the other player's king FIRST wins. You can also win if you put your opponent under a direct attack (a check in normal chess) and your opponent is unable to explode your king immediately, block the check, capture the checking piece, or move the king. If the checking piece is on a square next to your king, capturing that piece with your king would be illegal as it explodes your king as well. Furthermore, you can't capture a checking piece on a square adjacent to your king with any other piece either, as that also explodes your king. NEVER block a check by putting a piece right next to your king, since the checking piece will capture the blocking piece; thus, exploding your king. I think that summarizes atomic chess.
