I read a story about Karpov when he was a kid. He was becoming obsessed with chess, so his mother took away his chess set. However, that didn't seem to bother him all that much. She finally became suspicious and asked him, "You're playing chess in your head, aren't you?" He answered in the affirmative. :-)
My parents think i have a chess addiction and want me to quit chess, is that true?

open 2 tab, pretend your studying in the 1st tab and play chess in the 2nd tab (remember to alt tab when your parents sees you)

I mean if you access to the internet... let's just say chess is one of the less harmful things you can do. What do your parents want you to do anyways?

i play around 5-6 hours on weekends but on school days around 4 hours is what i do
4 hours a day on school days sounds a bit excessive to me. Maybe try to negotiate to allow 1 or 2 hours on those days?

@escherehcse i secretly play a t night and at my bedroom and i tried negotiating but it would just start an arugument and me getting grounded as i found doing the hard way

I can't play now Jordon sadly😥 Maybe try to teach your parents the game? It might be a good way to bond and show tham that the game is fun! I also would reccomend that you cut back to 1-2 hours so it's not as much of an obsession

but im really serious about chess and heard that studying alot improves u much better
What is your "study"?

puzzles, middlegames, endgames some mastergames, anaylyzing all my games, playing games, watch GMs plays, and tactics

but im really serious about chess and heard that studying alot improves u much better
You're not wrong but, if you are playing and studying to much your parents won't let you play
I have no idea my g
