Having an addiction is never good. Granted a chess addiction is better than say being addicted to drugs but, doing anything to much is unhealthy. If you are truly addicted to the game the, i understand why your parents want you to quit.

so im wrong?

Maybe you shouldn’t try to convince them they are wrong. Your parents may have good reasons to think why chess is not good for you.

Don’t assume your parents are necessarily wrong. They want the best for you, so maybe you should trust them.

If they think you are too fixated or obsessed with chess, how do you know they are not right? At your age (judging from the picture) you are very young. It is important not to lose this window in your life learning very important things like subjects at school for your later success. Playing a lot of chess does not guarantee that you’ll become a grandmaster and it definitely doesn’t usually bring financial success. So your parents may be correct about it.

Also, if you do what your parents tell you, chess will always be there in the future. So you have no urgent need to play chess.

If you are spending time on chess or games more than 1-2 hrs per day, then you are addicted.

Game addiction is very bad for students.

Does your school have a chess club? Try and convince your parents to let you join. It's a social outlet where your can meet new friends, and it's essentially just an extracurricular activity.

Also, the title of this forum says "my parents hate chess". Do they hate chess or your addiction to it?
