My Problem with Chess (From a Christian's POV)

As a Christian, I used to love chess. I used to think I had no problems with chess and I thought it to be a nice game that tests my mind. However, I had a conviction about chess. The LORD convicted me with His Spirit that there was something wrong about chess.

Doing some research into what other Christians think about chess, I found some problems:

  • Sacrificing pieces is a common chess theme. Though Self-Sacrifice is good, (Read John 15:12,13) Sacrificing others for your own benefit is not good.
  • A pawn can promote to a queen. This shows transgenderism, something I wouldn't say I support. (Please read Romans 1:26-28)
  • A big problem is the competitiveness of the sport. I feel like the king of chess whenever I win against my opponent. When I lose, I get angry and prideful. Chess seems to provoke those feelings. Pride in oneself isn't good of course. (Read James 4:6) And getting angry for the wrong reasons isn't okay either.

Thank you for reading. I am going to be quitting chess now. I hope other Christians will be inspired too.

Thanks, God bless
