Rented Pawn Sacrifice from a DVD kiosk for $1.50. A well done account of the World Championship match between Fischer and Spassky. The actor who plays Spassky was well cast. Toby McGuire's Fischer sort of resembles Michael J Fox. The era's music and news footage are interspersed throughout, a nice touch.
I presumed Spassky was just being a good sport, a gentleman, for putting up with Bobby's demands and delay tactics, but apparently he hated the idea of Fischer "escaping" like this and was determined to wait it out, to crush him. Humorous scene involving a suspicious chair. Great acting all around, and facial expressions over the board, closeups of chess clocks, pieces shifted around, are always dramatic to watch, in any chess movie (does a chess set go flying across the room in all such films? I bet so.😄)
I was only 6 years old at the time of the match, unaware of chess, but can easily imagine how it captured the attention of the nation. PawnSacrifice succeeds in recreating that excitement.
