You could do your work and pay attention during class, the play chess after your homework is complete.
That's what most kids do but the minority who are playing during class are the reason it's getting banned.

Or, you know, just play video games (there are some really good proxies that schools can't ban)
I don't know of any, my school has a custom block list of like 10,000 different sites because kids are so persistent to be doing something other than work during school.
If students were playing on chess.com why can't they play between themselves using the app? Or if the cell phones are taken just write out the moves.
.....They aren't that dedicated. I also doubt that over 30% even know how to write out moves, but I definetly wouldn't mind the writing out moves it's fun. Phones are taken though.
I'm a strong believer in the benefits of chess, but everything has its time and place. The same discipline that one needs to sit tight and really concentrate to defend a difficult position in an OTB tournament game is also required to put one's toys away and do school work. And if kids don't have the discipline to do that, then they're probably only playing bullet and therefore not learning anything.
That is a fantastic point. There is most definetly a time and place. Sometimes even with no work to do teachers want kids to just not be on devices. Which I understand, but sometimes chess is more fun than talking to your peers.
The five paragraph essay is a third grade level material in 1949, but fifth grade level material in 1999. Two points make a line, so on average, we lose one year of education every 25 years.
As a kid I remember thinking certain things were unfair, but even so, you probably already know that adults want kids to go to school and pay attention, so even if you think it's unfair it shouldn't surprise you that they block chess.com.

School is dull. That’s how it prepares you for work.
By the time you're done with high school, you will have shown yourself able to take idiotic commands from arbitrary dimwits who take orders from a bunch of elected mediocrities. A high school diploma should be seen as a mark of shame.
At its best, it conditions its victims into establishing and maintaining social pecking orders based on popularity.
take idiotic commands from arbitrary dimwits who take orders from a bunch of elected mediocrities.
Are you describing high school or the real world, I can't tell
You could add that the elected mediocrities are beholden to $$$ (whether that's senators or a board of directors).
The School Probaly baned it because they did'nt like online chess, maybe because kids were doing sus things just bring board and pieces
Or they just did'nt complete thier homework and they and they are failing school they should complete their homework first other then doing chess
My school just banned chess.com because kids were playing it to often in class. The kids are getting smarter on chess.com and learning more than they are at the school.
fr so annoying, cant even play chess. happened to me some time ago, got caught playing on chess.com and got a ban from chess.com at school. u cant blame me that much though, literally everyone was playing because it was the most boring hour, english(i want to die. english fr too boring)
When I was a kid we didn't have cell phones in class. We wrote our moves in a notebook and waited for the teacher to write something on the chalkboard before passing it to our opponent so they could make their move and pass it back.
