What 'rule' do you want us to clarify?

Pawns will never, ever move backwards. Period. (They won't even move sideways! Ever onwards, towards their doom...)

The only thing I can think of was that this was some old rule from the past because i saw on a yahoo questions board someone said that "guards can move backwards"

Wow, that link is a true testament to the awful answers you can get when you ask something on Yahoo.

One person even says, "Only when the queen and both bishops have been captured" and another says "Yes, I lost a big tournament because of this rule!"

Don't believe what you read on the internet. Wink (Except what I'm saying now!! Smile)

If only it were possible to somehow find the rules of chess on the internet. But how? HOW??

Some of the rules going back to the 1500's were truly bizarre, the queen didn't have the power she has today for one thing.  None of that matters anymore.

Some folk I've played in the past didn't have a clue about en passant, went on to accuse me of cheating.  When that happened I just refused to play on.  If you don't know the rules get off the board.

I'm sure many a fist fight has ensued over en passant down the years.  Tongue out
