Hello everyone ,
I have 12 year old girl , who likes to play chess , she started chess when she was 7 year . Initially she was playing very quick and good but since last year she is facing time trouble problem , she doesn't like to play rapid rated games . Now since last year she only plays long games but it seems she is not improving anymore ;( she is stuck with 1400 rating , after coming from school she does 2 hours chess everyday but we don't see any improvement , she is also taking lessons from one of GM since last one year !
She really likes chess but now she is loosing her confidence ;( kids who started after her got higher rating then her 😥😥 that makes her nervous !

All chess player plz advise or share your thought that how could i help my lil chess player !
Thanks in advance :)

Consequently chess is not a quick thing. Eventually you will get into a road block, sometimes even lose quite a few games at a time trying to excel. My best advise is the most blunt at the moment. Make sure she stays in control and keeps her confidence it's all in the head! Next make sure she is looking over each game first alone or with a person try to spot where things went wrong and why. After that pull a engine to see if there are minor tactics that were missed that she may need to take a longer and more in depth look into.

Anything aside from that keep up with the lessons and so tactics trainer if not on here try others sites that allow her to do free chess puzzles. If she doesn't have a membership. Stay strong we all run into barriers!

Your daughter may be at a plateau or may be at the point where she's absorbed most of what she can at her age from that GM.  He may be an excellent teacher or maybe not.

What is the GM's assessment of where your daughter is now? What are the learning goals he's trying to accomplish?  How is he trying to do it?

If he can't answer them quickly and in a way you understand, it might be time to try a different chess coach/instructor.  Usually the top players haven't been trained in teaching and often have trouble with lower rated players and young people.  I had titled people give talks to the highly-rated high school club I coached. They always left the kids with good ideas but the kids would usually turn to me, a so-so player but with an advanced teaching certificate, to explain to them what the master meant.

Are you sure her interest level is as high as you think it is? I've coached tons of kids and none of them are putting in anywhere two hours a day independent work on top of their lessons.

Often when I see kids no longer improving it's usually that their interest level has waned a bit.

It's possible that it's just a natural plateau but I suspect there's a bit more to it hiding under the surface.

I can definitely see that happening.  Thanks for relaying that experience.

Hello all , Thaknk you for Your reply , as per her coach she makes basic mistakes with calculation and she repete them again and again in games , she is not able to find our opponents plan and threats , as per her teacher her some fundamentals of Chess are not clear :(

I think all that can be fixed with tactics trainer to be honest. Finding an opponents plan is a never ending lesson in chess so it's nothing to stress about.
