NEVER give up!

Check out this amazing blitz game I just had! (Won by checkmate) We were both really fast on moves (unbelievably this was actually a 1 min blitz game!!) and the threats were real and the responses reasonable for the most part, so it wasn't just trash chess.

Amazingly, I allowed the queen to be exchanged for a measly bishop (game over right? WRONG!), but then turned things around at the last second by setting a trap which my oponent fell for, unable to resist the extra giftwrapped material I offered up, however, this allowed me to finish him off with a very nice mating net (bishop and knight).

Enjoy, and feel free to comment!

 Never give up! ; )

rabio

I can't believe you played that in a minute!

a very nice game!

GeneralMiller

Nice!

CoconutTiger

thnx for posting

CoconutTiger

i had never seen this mating combination before.

thnx again.

Chessroshi

this game hurt my monkey brain

donngerard

an inaccurate game !!!  though

skeptical_moves

typical 1 minute game... the black player gains a queen early in the game.. then plays too passive to get the win and white overcomes the loss of a queen! good comeback... looks like black didnt know how to handle the time pressure :)

scuttlebutt94

wow never seen a mate like tht before.

Thanks guys, yes of course in a 1 min game there are bound to be innacuracies, but that's part of the fun of it! Anyways, obviously, here the highlight was

1) Not giving up, especially in a short time game, and

2) The unique and stunning mating net at the end - my subconcious knew what was happening before I did! As I saw it unveiled, I surprised myself!!

I really want to use that combo in a longer, better game, so every chess game can serve a useful purpose it seems.

Let me know if you are able to pull something like this off in one of your games, please!..

Sconsc

So you are trying to say :do not resign in 1 minute games?

Brilliant advice.

erikido23

nice mate....at move 22 as black I play qxd4 and nxf2.....Up an exchange and likely able to trade off your only rook..especially in a blitz game the best way to go about that position.

But, good job of setting problems which he obviously could not solve.

Moutzomesque, Sconsc, for your acid-tongue-like comment! What I was trying to point out was 2fold:

1) That every game may hold some points, some more subtle than others, which can be translated into proper play in other situations, and

2) That often when material is lost, there may very well be some line of play, no matter how obscure, which could lead to a win given the resulting positional advantaged gained. It is all too common for players to resign immediately after losing a major material chunk, however, there could be an unxpected combo right around the corner, if you look carefully.

Generally, I was just giving a friendly reminder of " keep your eyes pealed' to the general chess public.

Sorry that it seemed to aggravate you so, Sconsc!! (maybe you should sip on some X-mas tzwika to help put you in better 'spirits' , so to speak, lol.)

Merry Christmas to everyone btw!

I am tiered of this NEVER give up attitude, granted in 1 minute games there is nothing wrong with not resigning.

What you are saying is hope your opponent is bad enough to stupidly throw away an extremely easy win. This can happen in 1 min games but the slower the game and the higher the rating this stops happening, you are giving this advice on a site where people mostly play games with 3 days per move or slower.

For a 1move/day game this advice is horrible, you are wasting both your time and your opponents by playing on in such positions.

There is a difference between a completely lost position and one such as this game had.  Even if black took my advice in a long game he would have to make sure that all his pawns were not lost(in which case black would have at least a draw in most cases).  Especially at their level there is room for MANY mistakes in a sharp game such as that one(as indicated by the result.).

I do agree some people don't know when to resign.  But, the result of the game(even if it was a 1mine game) shows that it was not time to resign.  There was still traps to be set and mistakes which could be made.  The annoying thing is when people see it is mate in a few moves and make some silly check that prolongs the game for one move or other similar tactics.

thomas_karstens

Freaking well done.
I'll definitely try to memorize the checkmate position. Out of the blue I would say.
Great game, well played, good post. :D

Thank you, I believe the people have spoken, and I'm glad that the overwhelming majority understand the educational intention and interest that I had here.

Plus, I just wanted to share this freakin cool checkmate.

See you guys around, hope to play you soon!

Is 'forcing chess moves' the name of a book?

(or are you just kidding around, and I don't get it?)
