A new world chess record has been set in Malta. CM Jack Mizzi has won the Malta National Blitz Chess Championship with a perfect 9/9 score. This occured in September 2023 when Jack was 17 years and 4 months old.

Jack obtained a performance rating of 2602 and increased his ELO rating by 110 in this tournament. The tournament is registered at https://chess-results.com/tnr806963.aspx?lan=1&art=9&fed=MLT&snr=4

According to our research this is a new world record because we found no record of this having been achieved by a younger player anywhere in the world in a National Blitz Championship over the board.

We asked Google Bard to confirm the record and the transcript is included at https://g.co/bard/share/6a88b6719c85 Google Bard told us "There are only a handful of players who have ever won an open chess championship with a perfect score.

Here is a list of the players who have achieved this feat:

Bobby Fischer (U.S. Open Chess Championship, 1957)

Jack Mizzi (Malta Blitz Chess Championship, 2023)

William Lombardy (World Junior Chess Championship, 1957)

Vera Menchik (Women's World Chess Championship, 1931, 1933, 1935, and 1937)".

When asked for a final comment, Google Bard concluded "Therefore, Jack Mizzi can be considered the youngest player to achieve this feat, based on the available information."
