I totally agree with your 1st point. It's not usually, it's usually all the time.
The intensely personal reaction is why I pay no attention anymore to those type of lists-unless I'm simply looking for amusement. My default is, as I stated earlier, all art is subjective.

What's great about lists is that it does always default to an intensely personal reaction; my top 3 songs in my current list are In Love by The Raincoats, Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan, and Theme de Yoyo by The Art Ensemble of Chicago; there is nothing even remotely resembling an appropriately objective manner of contrasting those three songs, they're just too wildly different. So I have to choose which one makes my heart flutter most, and that's a fine criterion.
