hello everyone! happy.png im new here, not sure if this should go under general discussion, or more under community, but i just made my account happy.png

i used to "play" chess, when i was younger, just with friends though, and had no idea there was such an expansive budding online chess community!

i stream regularly on twitch, wont advertise here but found an article on how chess.com is partnered with them now, and focusing more on streaming and the twitch community. i recently shot an application in today.

if anyone has any tips for a new player they are greatly appreciated, i know theres a "learn" section where you can improve your game, but it seems there is quite alot of options, so any tips on which to start first would be appreciated happy.png

Hey, welcome to Chess.com; "General Discussion" is the default category, but "Chess.com Community" would have been fine too.

We've got some great tools for people wanting to improve their game, from the seriously full on and definitely-not-free Prodigy Program to an array of free tools, like the video lessons (Learn --> Lessons) and things aimed at improving specific areas, like Tactics, Drills and Vision. I'm not really sure how suitable any of that is for streaming, though, and I think they might be aimed at people who'd really like to improve a lot rather than those who are hoping to build things a little more slowly and in an interesting way for an audience - hopefully Chess.com will be able to work with you to figure something out!

Lessons and Tactic Training is a good way to begin. Most strong people here will recommend improving tactics as the most important thing to improve your game, and their are probably right. In the lessons you will have all aspects of the game considered.

The most important thing is to have fun in what you are doing. A lot of people are playing blitz here, but also a lot of people come once to a point where they recognise that they have to go for slower games (rapid or even Daily Chess) to improve their rating.

You can also participate in a club, a group of people sharing similar interests. As you see, plenty of alternatives!

Good start!
