Newbie Question: How was this stalemate?

Hey all!

Was playing "Simple Chess" on my PC (downloaded through Steam) with my girlfriend last night. Probably only the tenth game of chess I've ever played in my life, but I didn't understand how the game ended.

I had a few pieces left (I was black), and she only had her King (white). I was chasing her king around for a while, not being able to get her into checkmate. She seems to think there is a rule where if she moves 7 times with only her king left, then she automatically loses. But this screenshot below says Stalemate! But as far as I can tell, she is definitely in checkmate. Is this correct? Can someone please explain what happened?

Thanks!

Ben

It looks like white has no legal moves to make with the K.  That's a stalemate since the K can't move into check.

is a stalemate a draw?

Yes, stalemate is a draw.

her king cannot move any where and it is not in check so it is a stalemate

Ahaaaa, great. Thanks! I didn't realise that was how the rule worked. Appreciate the help!

king is not in check. queen covers all squares around king except f2, while knight covers f2. king cannot move anywhere
