You are another troll; why don't you mind your own business ...or do you like sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong. Do me a favour and go and play with the traffic Einstein.

(Nigel Short does not see Anand winning another World title)

He said the same thing about the candidates tournament but Anand won nevertheless...

What interests me is how the OP converted the quote "I don't see Anand winning the world title again" into "it will not be possible for him to win". The real quote is simply Short's (justified) opinion; the OP's interpretation of it is a different statement altogether, and one which Short would never have made. In his second post he equates Short with the whole of the UK; because Short (an individual) thinks that Anand is unlikely to win, the whole UK (a nation) is therefore anti-Anand.

All not really worth answering, so I won't.

I'm sorry, Trotter64. I was to lazy to bother look up the name of the person who made that post, so I owe you an apology. It wasn't just a random nitwit who wrote those words, it was Trotter64, and he deserves all the credit for them

Try not to be so lazy in future; laziness in general is not a good quality for a chess player. Incidentally I do not shirk any responsibility for any words I have written but I thank you for your apology ,although it did strike me as a tad insincere ... ho hum, time to move on from the Kramnik issue I think.

He seems pretty consistent in his views

Consistent? Quote #2 says exactly the opposite of quote #1 and #3.

Perhaps the double-negative ("don't doubt") confused you?

"Quote #2 says exactly the opposite of quote #1 and #3"

Saying that it was possible for Anand to play better than he had lately isn't the exact opposite of saying that you don't think he will become World Champion again.

I don't think many expect Anand to win back the title, by the way. Carlsen is huge betting favourite, and the next title match after this one will be in 2016, when Anand turns 47. I think Carlsen had 1.28 in odds last time and 1.25 this time at some betting site. Like Short I don't see Anand becoming World Champion again.

At the time of that quote, Anand was not playing well. If Short had said "I doubt that it's possible for Anand to raise his game", then that would certainly have ruled out any further WCC play for Anand. But Short didn't say that... he said the opposite: "I don't doubt that it's possible for Anand to raise his game".

I am a brit so I like underdogs. I hope Annand proves us all wrong and pulls off a splendid upset. And if the odds are suitable - three to one or better - I fully intend a modest wager.  Received racing wisdom is always to back the outsider of three. Not sure that dictum has done me any good over the years but I am well ahead backing heavy outsiders at football.

dont beleive everything that idiot says. he's the spoilt brat of UK chess. He's just fodder for the GM'S. Have a go at getting to the candidates yourself Nigel.

Since we seem to live a few thousand miles apart, it is unlikely that we should ever meet. But if we do, I would be delighted to call you a nitwit to your face. Until then I will let your own words do the job for me

You silly little boy, I gave you a chance to draw a line in my last post but you choose to carry on with your aggressive ways;I know your type of old ;you think that you can direct personal insults online because of the physical distance between us but if you were actually to be confonted in real life you would no doubt resort to pooping your pants. You are all talk buddy .

Now do yourself a favour and keep out of my virtual space.

Short would probably have made it to WCC, if Kasparov hadn't been on campus.

That's probably also true for Anand and his current doppleganger, Carlsen.

Nonetheless, I'm still rooting for Anand, and a big upset.

"Doppelganger" is German for "double walker" - a shadow self that is thought to accompany every person. Traditionally, it is said that only the owner of the doppelganger can see this phantom self, and that it can be a harbinger of death."

Kasparov was Short's bête noire, rather. As Carlsen is Anand's.

Short is correct. If Anand wins it will be a huge boilover... not going to happen. You could tell that Carlsen was having a laugh at some of the candidates games. He is on another level to those guys right now.

Anand shocked many people including Kasparov by winning the Candidates. He won it quite easily, cruising to the finish line. The fact that he was able to reinvent himself like that and find his old form is pretty remarkable, and it sends a signal that he should not be counted out by any means.

I want Anand to win because I hope for an uproar in the chess community.

"Nigel Short: I don't Doubt it is Possible for Anand to Raise his Game, Question is Can He here in Chennai?"

This is the complete quote, and he went on with doubting Anand's chances, saying that if Carlsen just takes the game to unpredictable lines, he doesn't see any way out for Vishy. He finished with this final quote..

"I don't doubt it is possible to raise his game, for this, the toughest match of his career. Whether he is likely to, though, is another matter. Eventually the end of the road comes to even the greatest of batsmen."

Agree with all that, but I think I'd like 5 to 1 before I put money on Anand.

'But I dont see him' does not equate to 'it would not be possible'. I dont see English being the first language of the op, but its not impossible.

Heres a game by way of celebrating the former world Nr 3, the middle game King march, http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1124533

Those hoping or believing Anand will win should visit the bookmakers as they will get favourable odds.
