Hi to all!! I have played d5 against 1.d4 for about 2-3 years. But finally I got bored. Please suggest me an opening which starts with 1.Nf6! I have a basic knowledge about Queen's Indian and Grunfeld. However, I really want to play Nimzo-Indian! In Nimzo Indian, Black usually gives his bishop pair for an active play. Grunfeld also seems convenient for me. I don't like positional chess, I'm really interested on tactical chess. So I think Nimzo Indian more than others. Please tell me the ideas of these openings like Grunfeld, Queen's Indian and Nimzo Indian.

Yes, you are right. I said that I am trying to find a "tactical" opening. In fact, I mean an "active" opening. By the way, you can't play a tactical game when you or your opponent plays 1.d4. However, I think Nimzo-Indian Defence is more active than a Grunfeld. I think that Nimzo-Indian can be the most active opening against 1.d4.

Lol you need to throw out all your stereotypes. D4 can get just as tactical as e4, depending on the variations. Look at the Dutch, the chigorin, the King's Indian, the grunfeld, positions in the semi-Slav.

I mean the botvinnik semi Slav is literally the sharpest opening there is by a mile, and it is a d4 opening.

I think you need to open your mind a bit more if you want to find the right option. You can't have a simple view of openings or they will eat you alive. Especially the nimzo, which can go so many different ways and is one of the richest strategical openings there is!
