none here care to introduce themselves?

Greetings!  Curious if anyone here would care to introduce themselves and what brought you here.  I live in California and am self emplyed, 46, and haven't played chess since 13 lol.  My rating is 1270, but fluctuates rapidly depending on the happy hour, you might say. I love this site because it's the only place where you can find someone good enough to play and much more.  I also own a couple forums as a hobby at avianflutalk.com and swineflu.org as a hobby.

Anyway, if anyone here would like to introduce themselves, please do it and, tell your rating!

Best, Oscar

Hi -

I live in a small farming community, tightly wedged in the puckered sphincter of western New Brunswick (Canada). I used to play OTB about twenty years ago (I'm nearly 58), and did pretty well in amateur competitions... my OTB rating was around 2050 CFC. I got back into the game exactly a year ago, and I'm having a lot of fun on this site.

One word of warning, though... this forum is absolutely overrun with trolls. You will indeed encounter plenty of friendly, helpful and articulate people; but they are badly outnumbered by the rude and inconsiderate ones. Within the low-to-mid ranks, I haven't noticed any strong correlation between playing strength and courtesy, but the titled players (IMs, GMs) seem much more polite than average.

Annoying, aren't I?

Want some of mine?

Groucho Marx was fond of pointing out that growing old isn't so bad when you consider the alternative.

Hello! My real name is Erik, 28 years old, and work in the high tech industry. I've been playing chess since I was young while watching my father play it. And autodidacting while reading about it in a chess book I read like 8 times through. Later, my father did not want to play against me anymore so I started playing blitz online, first other websites, now at chess.com.

My college friends got me into a nice blitz tourney. Also I joined a chess club for a year, but that interfered with an other hobby.

Yeah sometimes this forum can be trolly, I participate so now and then, but dont take it personal, its just for fun. (Actually, it is the most fun when people do take it personal, but enough about that).

So now I go to this yearly blitz tourney, and play blitz online, and sometimes watch chessexplained on youtube for new ideas.

Nice to meet you.
