NOT FAIR!!

peace chess family, I have a bone to pick.  I think there should be a botton to let a player know if someone is going on vacation. I was playing a game I am going to win, the person I was playing saw this and went on vacation. he or she knew this before the game started so why do I have to wait for them to not come back to the game?

there should be a botton to say can we postpone this game for how long and it should be agreed to. if anyone looks at this game they will see this person have no intent on coming back or just decided to stop playing becasue they will lose. can someone fix this?

or how can I send in a complaint? I think I shoud get the win and be done with it how can a person start losing then decide to go on vacation without the other persons knowlegde or consent? it should be a agree thing. if anyone else agree with this please let me know, maybe we can put in a complaint with the server to fix this problem.

Don't forget he's probably playing other games and may be he's going to win all of them. Don't think he's trying to hide from you. May be he had to go somewhere - chess.com's life is not his only life!

My opinion: going to vacation is only his business.

I wouldn't want to have to say in advance how much vacation I might be going on. The game could last a year!

I think asking the vacationer to provide an Expected Return Date (optional) is an excellent idea. Usually, you know more or less how long you'll be on vacation, and this gives your opponent some idea of when to expect you back.

But I don't think taking a vacation should require consent. That just means when I need to make a business trip some of my opponents will say no and win free rating points (regardless of whether they were winning or losing).

How can I show the community the game so you can see why I say what I said?

How can I post the game so the communtiy can understand why I say this. this person sat and played althe way up until this losing position then desided to go on vacation. why not just be a man or woman about it at the on set of the game say.. "we may not be able to finish this game because I'm kinda rushing out. instead of waiting until your losing then just push teh vacation botton. I know what going on befor I get on line I know if I'm playing one game or 100 games this is why the site gives you three days to do what you have to do agree or not?

PTMF, I totally sympathise with you. And I believe your opinion that your opponent is abusing the vacation feature. However, your suggested solution, while it solves your problem, creates many more. You have to think of the global picture if you want to suggest feature changes.

I am upset about this but I agree with you  Loomis most times we get stuck in ourown stuff and blind ourself from the bigger or global picture. however I think we all have to put our heads together to stop people from abusing this feature. I was thinking of us all when i posted this I didn't think I was the only one with this problem. I just want people to be fair and considerate of our communty. I'm not that good but I love the game. but you are right I must look at the big picture and not just what works for me. this was my lesson for today. thank you!
Loomis
There have also been other threads on similar vacation abuse scenarios. So there are definitely other people out there hoping for a solution. For the most part though, I think people just move on to their next games (you can start up several more if you like!) knowing that the other person is just a jerk.

we are going to overhaul vacations coming soon :) it will make it less pleasant for people who go on vacation to avoid losses (don't worry - i have a few of these clowns playing me too)

It seems to me that if there is a limit on how long a player may take vacation, then the solution is already implemented. It strikes me (from my week on this site--and my years on similar sites) that this is a turn-based chess (aka online correspondence chess) site. In the old days of postcards and telegrams, correspondence players spent two years and more on each game. Finishing a game in days, weeks, or a few months is lightning fast.

If I must wait out a vacation to finish off my opponent, so be it.

Shruikon

Did it ever occur to you that a few of these alleged abusers might actually be on a vacation?

If they are on vacation, then they will come back and finish it. And they do not need to tell anyone here that they'll be going on vacation unless they want to.

If however they are abusers, just be patient. Eventually their vacation time will run out and you'll get your win anyway. Just start up some more games.

Zapurdead
what if they vacation until you forget about it, then they unvacation so you lose one time?
Shruikon
If they un-vacation and make a move, then the next time you check the site you get an alert saying it is your move in that game.

The answer is OBVIOUS. I am in the middle of my 2nd game online. The 1st went fine. In the 2nd I am about to win - but my opponent has suddenly stopped playing. What is needed is an EBAY type system where players can register their opinions about their opponents (in terms of star rating as well as comments). That way the sort of miserable sod I am currently playing wouldn't get another game

They have a system similar to this on playchess, but it doesn't keep me from playing those I dislike or distrust until I choose to ignore each one individually.

well i also have a game where an opponent is out for a vacation for more than a month now. the game is about even but still its a good game to missed. what bothers me is that when i last checked out how long vacation days is left for him its just less than 3 days and then when the month changes, he had another 30 days left and i think he will be on vacation forever.

thausa

What ever it is, I think this vacation feature is required. Otherwise say you have some other ur own stuff where you can't find sometime to concentrate on chess, so you need it.

But having a way of complaining about this type of players would be great, since that lead all of others know about him before starting a new game with that person.

thausa

How about limiting the no. of continuous vacation days per game? Say 14 maximum days of continuous leaves per one game.

After player "Y" made the move, if player "X" does not make a move after 14 days, "Y" wins (even if "X" is on vacation).

Is there a way to implement such a feature?
