Paul Morphy: Zombie Slayer

OK, I've slept on it,and you all made valuable contributions.

I shall pick the topic of Kasparov's match with Deep Blue.

In doing so, I'll try to incorporate ALL your ideas into the novel (especially the alien, and zombie slayer ideas:P)

Thank you so much for giving me this help!

Bobby Fischer meets Paul Morphy - what a very attractive notion!

I suppose, being the rather disfunctional characters they both turned out to become, it might have been a non event had it happened in real life.  But in the world of the imagination such a splendid prospect.  Would they be soul mates, do you think, or deadly rivals?

And what did Fischer think of Morphy (in real life I mean). Did he admire his play?

Anyway great idea that.  No idea how it could be handled in a story.

Thanks. Perhaps I will write it myself.

I think Fischer wither spoke highly of him in his top 10 list of best chess players, or he didn't include him. (not very helpful)

psy88, youre writing a novel too???

I was hoping you would but I liked my suggestion so much that, if no one else will, perhaps I will. i dfon't know. I idea will incubate with me for awhile.  I hope you can post whatever you do write so we all can enjoy it.

in december, or whenever you finish, can you post it in pdf format here on chess.com so we can read it?

atarw

OK sure!

I have to warn you: I am not the next J.K Rowling.

@psy88: Sorry for not taking ur suggestion! Good luck with ur novel though!

atarw

P.S: Keep in mind, its not going to be 100-200 pgs, maybe 50-100 pgs, so it will be a short read.

OK, My novel shall be finished by Dec. 1

I've been working on it, and here is a bit of it.

Comments would be appreciated, as well as some feed back.

P.S: The link can be used forever, so just go on that link.

I don't have to post 10 different links

That is excellent. Good pace, holds the attention and lots of story. Plus some technical ideas that work - flashback and so on.

Almost nothing to suggest.  "Righeously" at the end of the preface needs to be "rightly" and I suggest "second" in place of "trainer".

With some hesitation I'll mention the passage starting with "I gave a discount" at the end of chapter 1. I stumbled for a moment before (rapidly) picking up the thread so it may be some very minor reworking is needed there. One sentence at most. Maybe a couple of shorter sentences would do the trick.

Oh, sorry I see I did not read to the end. I'll look at chapters two and three if I get time later.

But congrats. That is good work. You can confidently expect an A grade or extra credit or whatever you lads get. :)

atarw

Thanks! I will try to correct the mistakes, I felt the same way for I gave a discount as well.

It is one thing to write a novel, and actually read it afterwards.

But for the trainer part, I put trainer, as I am well aware my teacher isn't a chess player, so for sake of simplicity and to help the readers understand, trainer was put instead of second.

Once again, thx for the proof-reading!

is your novel going to stretch out after kasparovs loss?

because if it doesn't, there is no point reading it because you gave away the ending in the preface

unless this will be non-fiction, but then it isn't a novel

atarw

My novel is only covering the first match in 1996, and the second match, I will put in an epilogue, e.g

A rematch occurred in 1997

Deep Blue won by the score of 3.3/2.5

Kasparov accused the machine of cheating

IBM denied the accusations and dismantled Deep Blue

atarw

It is historical fiction, since I don't think there was a tourney in moscow which kasparov attended that year.
