It would be interesting to study how often the 'novelty' mark has been misattributed. In the world before 5 million game databases, even the most knowledgeable GMs couldn't be expected to know every high level chess game. Heck, even with 5 million game databases, you'll forget to add X game collection or miss something in a transpositional nuance. It's pretty hard to be precisely certain when exactly a certain novelty came to be.

Every once in a while I see the capital letter N, for novelty, after some notation. Can someone tell me what this is?
