Online chess dead
#1
"Online chess is pretty much dead at this point."
++ It is not: many games are played online
"the competition is not fair"
++ Cheating happens, but do not get paranoid about it. Cheaters get caught eventually.
If you are really paranoid, then play 1|0 bullet.
"I'm like 900 rating but even at this rating it feels like every other player is cheating some way"
++ If a player is cheating and still rated 900 then he is bad in every respect.
"900 rated players know pretty much every opening and lines by heart"
++ The weaker the players, the more they are obsessed with openings.
Deviate with an odd move.
"dudes are literally punishing every single mistake I make"
++ Make less mistakes, or at least less obvious mistakes.
"engines have completely killed the game"
++ Grandmasters still play the game despite the engines
"it is just memorize engine moves" ++ then deviate with an odd move

900 rated players are not cheating. If they are, then they aren’t even remotely good at cheating.
900 rated players do not “know” openings by heart. They just play fast. My friend has often said that he thinks I know a lot of openings, but in reality I just know many common ideas, and just play them very fast.
900 rated players are not punishing every single mistake you make. It only feels that way.
Engines have not killed the game. At top level it’s still going strong.
Its not just “memorize engine moves”. Lol. There was a dude who tried to play magnus by memorizing every single engine line. This is on youtube. He played like five moves of mainline ruy Lopez theory and got destroyed.
All true. Excellent post.
Gee, a player who made an account just to make one post?

Ever notice that no one loses anymore? Its always some type of "outside" interference.
Someone cheated.
Something was hacked.
This is not a new phenomenon. Before engines, the excuse was "wasn't feeling well", or "had a headache".
Tartacover, back in the 1930s, claimed that he'd never beaten a healthy man.

You complain that players must be cheating, then mention how they get even better once they are a piece down. They cheated to lose a piece? That's just how things go for low-level players, everybody blunders and many times the opponent doesn't find the killing reply.

My personal favorite, "that didn't count, the sun was in my eyes"

ok but to be fair, having the sun glance on the board in your eyes is pretty distracting. Luckily for me, it only happened to me once, and I ended up winning.

Gee, another crybaby whose cherished delusions are shattered?

Online chess is pretty much dead at this point. It is literally impossible to play online, cause the competition is not fair, you have the rating system, which shows nothing, I mean I'm like 900 rating but even at this rating it feels like every other player is cheating some way. Every once in a while you play an opponent that you can feel, is there. You know he takes time to think, especially in the middle game and if you get beat you see that you've been outplayed fair and square.
Most of the time you get beaten in a really fishy way though. For starters there are a lot of players even in the 900 rating range that play a whole game without even thinking about their moves. no calculating moves nothing. I mean at this beginner level I expect dudes to actually calculate and think but more than often you just see players blitzing out top moves with like seconds, even what is supposed to be a complex positiion for like 900 rating, dudes are still blitzing out top moves. Things get even more crazy once they're a piece down for instance. Not to mention it seems that 900 rated players know pretty much every opening and lines by heart, I mean, really ?
Other thing is the moves themselves, like I'm sorry but at my level dudes are literally punishing every single mistake I make, it is like they are blitzing out moves just waiting for me to make a mistake, which they take advantage of instantly. Even in some tough positions where you make a positional mistake, they are instantly there to punish you. This just doesnt feel right.
All in all, the engines have completely killed the game and you cant learn chess by playing chess anymore, looks like it is just memorize engine moves and thats it. This is just sad.
you're saying they memorized engine lines and punishing every mistake you made, if this was true, I wouldn't even be mad. You got to respect the guy for having good enough memorization to know the best move for every possible move
and if he was using a computer to cheat without memorizing then he wouldn't be moving so fast, computers take time to find the best move, that's why computers can take over a minute to finish analyzing your games (if he was moving instantly then most of his moves are probably not going to be the best)
also have you analyzed any of your games?
