Hello chessers,

do you have any hints and tips how to improve my OTB or live chess performance. The difference in my rating between online and live play is abou 400 (!!) (Online: 1266 / Live: about 800 or less).

When playing live (15 min. games) I am very nervous, I constantly blunder and make mistakes I rarely do in online games. I tried to overcome my nervousness by playing Chessmaster - but it seems that this software programmes play like no human being would ever play, even on lower levels.

I appreciate if you could tell how you overcame your bad live chess performances. Any other hints and tipps would be also great for me.

Thanx in advance.

Keep in mind that online chess ratings are vastly inflated and do not represent your "on time" ratings.

Always play someone who is vastly superior to you.  You may not have the "win" mentality that gets in the way of seeing the board.

@xming:

Hm, but I think permanently losing will not make you a better player -besides form the lack of motivation.

Absolutely need motivation.  Losing to a superior player will teach alot.

I have become more relaxed by playing better players.
