Only play higher rated players?
That's a rude statement Horror, I was asking a legitimate question. If I weren't playing to increase my rating, I would play unrated games. Higher rating= games against better players, that's the way it works here.
Thanks Bill, those statistics put it in perspective.
Not all of chess revolves around rating, you can have fun playing lower level players. Also if you are trying to gain elo, you will get a huge win percentage, even if you only gain a couple points per game. Also this thread is currently the thread with the least recent comment, not counting locked threads. Wow

Good comment but the people your replying to left 2 decades ago, just let the thread rest in peace
@Magician We don't always think to look at the date before responding. I know I've done that before too. I try to look now but it's a common mistake. :-)
For some reason the guy keeps resurrecting very old abandoned threads
Just a couple like three i think

No worries @fraserhm And I've PURPOSELY resurrected old threads as well. It happens and sometimes they SHOULD be brought back. I'm much more upset with the trolling, spamming and garbage posted than with old thread reserrections. Some of our greatest resources and knowledge exists in 'old threads', right?
It's not like they brought back one of Chomper's abominations!

"For some reason ..."
I realized that I too spend large segments of time deep-diving in forums so I asked myself your question. I'm searching for answers to many of my (thousand) questions but also hunting for nuggets - things I just didn't know I didn't know!
So people that 'resurrect' are chess archeologists and treasure seekers. Sometimes bringing old subjects to light, we discover new uses or techniques from them in addition to filling in the gaps for newbs.

Downvoting. Why resurrect a forum post from almost 20 years ago? How did you even find it???

I’m sorry, but can you judge a post by what it says, not that it’s an old thread?

No problem, look for threads like this, admire them, take screenshots and move on
Archaeologists usually do not engrave "I was here" on a treasure they found

No archeologists wouldn't engrave onto any treasure but they sure WOULD be identified as the Discoverer, no?
Reminds me of an old software cartoon I love SEE BELOW. @fraserhm bringing up an older post is his right just as it is for you NOT to do it. I think it is a bit overly-strict to pick on them when there are real trolls and bots that we should be focusing on. Just a thought. :-)
@McChatty besides ... when we find a treasure, we want to share it or respond. I'm unsure why you're so down on it. When did history, particularly chess history, or prior techniques become too outdated?
I wonder what the old Grand Masters would think about that?

So if I can lose 24 points playing someone 300 pts below me but only lose 3 pts playing someone 300 pts above me, there is no reason (ratings-wise) to ever play someone with a lower rating?
