Opening accuracy

I have been playing chess for some time (since the mid eighties). I was introduced the game by someone who beat me terribly so for a couple of months. When I started playing better and the tables turned the person who taught me didn't want to play anymore. So I went to the neighborhood radio shack store and got a little electronic chess board to play. I played this thing for months and it seemed that whatever I did it always countered me and I never won a game. I decided to go to the local library and find books on chess. I really did not understand what I was reading. The first chess book I studied was Chess Fundamentals by Capablanca. It seemed all that I was learning didn't help me defeat the electronic chess board. I followed all the rules Capablanca said to follow in the openings then became dumbfounded as the game progressed. After about six months I started defeating the board and eventually was able to win 7 out ten games consistently. I said all that to say this. I put chess down for about twenty-five years and have started playing once again. I am using Hiarcs Explorer to play now. It tells me what opening I have played and how accurately I have played it. I never studied openings, hell I don't even know some of the names of openings it is telling me I am playing, but according to Hiarcs I am playing most openings with 70-85 percent accuracy. Is this unusual or normal? Most games I play I either win or lose in the middlegame, hardly ever make to endgames. I have started studying chess using Chess Tutor from Shredder Chess. Is this a good route to go? Should I be studying openings? In the eighties there wasn't much available electronically to use to learn openings only books. The only issue I have with my game is that I spend 1/3 of my clock time in the first 8-10 moves of a game . I play 30 minute games against my cpu and typically am in a time crunch by the end and lose almost half of my games because I run out of time, then I move to quickly and make mistakes. Any advice or comments are welcome

Thanks
