OTB chess clubs

Tell me about them. I have debated going to one but I feel it might not be my thing. The one closest to me is All the Kings Men (New Jersey, USA). I'm looking for both positive and negative experiences to either confirm or break my preconceived image of what this place will be like.

I wasn't clear in the OP but I am looking for experiences not just related to this one club. Also do you find you prefer to just play games on the internet vs going to the club?

OTB is more enjoyable for me.  I go to two different local clubs when I can.

I definitely prefer the expereience of playing OTB but I am thankful for chess.com and other internet sites as I don't have nearly enough time to go to the local club.  But OTB is my favorite form of chess!

I spend more time online; I get more pleasure from my local club.

Chess may seem solitary, but learning the game, analyzing, is social. Slow tournaments, blitz tournaments, rapid play, simuls, post-mortems, lasting friendships--all benefits of OTB clubs.

My club is the Spokane Chess Club. My first meeting was in 1977.

I enjoy both online and OTB, but I like OTB better. My club is the St. Charles Chess Club in St. Charles, IL. We meet Thursdays at 7:30 at the Baker Community House in St.Charles. I encourage anyone in the area to attend.

OTB is where it's at for me.  although the majority of my chess IS online, i would much rather meet with the club and bang pieces around the board and punch the clock.  i just played last night until 4 am, in fact.  we all play blitz for hours and hours, and then attempt to solve puzzles in the wee hours of the morning.  it's great fun, and less distracting than being on the net if you ask me.  :)
