I am a new chess player and I want to try my have at some entry level OTB tournaments, looking online at the USCF website I am very confused at how to start off my OTB career. Does anyone have any advice?

Queen sacrifices are good to do in the beginning of the match unless your opponent plays rook d8 as his first move. Hope this helps!

Maybe you could search around for Chess clubs near where you live as they usually have some OTB tournaments. My guess is that the USCF website would show the more larger tournaments so maybe also look for local advertising of local tournaments.

Look up your state's chess association and from there you can find listings of local clubs and events

Join a chess club.  Most of them host tournaments.

What I am about to share with ou will solve these problems forever. Finding a tournament is easy the important thing is winning; here is how I got a GM tittle without studying chess: I built a shoe that had 5 points of little pokers each. 8 of these would tell me what rank or file to move to, and 2 would tell me each piece, and of course it is hooked up to stockfish. Soon I will hold the highest rating ever achieved! (Note this is a joke)
